Two swastikas were found at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 at the New Rochelle High School in the boy’s bathroom near the lower cafeteria, New Rochelle Police Capt. Cosmo Costa said. Two others were found the following day at the school, one in the library and one near the Athletic Director’s Office.

The swastikas were written in black marker and approximately two inches in height, Costa said. They’ve since been photographed and removed by school personnel.

Late last year, a four-inch swastika was found at the high school scratched into a bathroom stall in a boy’s locker room. In response, the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center reached out to the district and offered to educate students on the meaning of hateful speech.

“Acknowledging the incident at New Rochelle High School is just the first step in the battle to erase all forms of hatred, in this case, an act of antisemitism,” they said last year. “We are here to assist the New Rochelle community.  A lesson of hate symbols would be appropriate in the context of the need for continuous instruction of students to become upstanders and speak out against all manifestations of hatred in our society."

The incident at New Rochelle High School remains under investigation. If a student is identified as a suspect, he is subject to be suspended from school, officials said.
